On The Surface That Was

Mission: S1: Prologue
Location: Earth
Timeline: Day 11 at 1645

[February 11, 2158]

Nikita smiled stepping out of the shuttlepod on the ground, even if concrete. She smelled the air and closed her eyes briefly taking in the Earth as it was in its magnificence. Then someone bumped her in the back forcing her to step forward to avoid being knocked on the ground. She turned at the person that did it, anger briefly flashing on her face, but the person absolutely oblivious to Nikita’s existence continued on. Nikita frowned. Well, maybe magnificence was a bit of the overstatement.

“It is still good to be back.” She murmured under her nose and picked her two heavy bags. After few steps, she gained good rhythm and walking became less burdening. She was looking forward to visit Intrepid as soon as possible. She probably should report to the Captain… well Commodore Eskandari. However, since she wasn’t on board yet, it seemed like an overkill.

“Eeeeeexcuse me, Ensign.” She heard from behind and turned around. The man was older with striking green eyes, had a simple land vehicle that seemed like a cross between a transport and tractor. “I just can’t watch you burdened with those big bags. Jump in.” He nodded at the half-empty open back.

“Thank you, sir. I am fine. The stop for the train is just few hundred meters ahead.” She said with a smile.

“Oh, come on.” He laughed and gave her meaningful wink. “I’ve been there. I was serving, retired five years ago. Let me help you.”

Nikita canted her head and gave in.
“All right.” She agreed and approached the vehicle to drop her bags on the back.
